This Is What Disneyland Looked Like In 1956

September 14, 2010

These two videos feature home movie footage from a family’s vacation to Disneyland in 1956, a year after the theme park first opened. The more things change (I’m pretty sure you don’t get to actually meet Walt Disney when you go to the park these days), the more they stay the same.

On an interesting side note, apparently the couple featured in the videos are the poster’s grandparents, including his grandfather who he never really knew. As he says on the video’s site, “As someone who never really knew his grandfather; these reels of film have really let me feel related to him and the rest of my family, too.” Pretty cool stuff.

Just imagine 100 years from now when some kid gets to watch this video of his grandfather’s first day as a Dad.
